What do you want to be when you grow up?

FacebooktwitterlinkedinFacebooktwitterlinkedin

I was recently asked that question by a colleague of mine, and without hesitation, the words just rolled out of my mouth.

When I was a little girl, I always wanted to grow up to be a Doctor.  I remember my first “Play-Doctor” set my Mom gave me when I turned 6.

My Dad on the other hand, was not too keen on the idea as he viewed little girls as nurses, never doctors.  (I know; kind of Cave-Man mentality!)

I’d be giving “Free Physicals” to the kids in the neighborhood, and a clean bill of health was had by all.  I also knew in order to do my best work while “examining” all these kids with the fake stethoscope, I needed to delegate smaller tasks to others, like take a number or make an appointment.  So telling others to help out and seeing to it that it got done, became second nature to me.

We had to leave our Homeland at an early age due to the Castro-Cuban Communist Regime, and once in the States, I worked very hard to support my family and two younger sisters as I went to school  to secure an education.

Though I didn’t make it to Medical School, I learned the importance of possessing business acumen, and wound-up working in the medical field (big suprise, right?) and later became the proud owner of a very successful, Medical Dictation and Transcription computereized service in the tri-county area of South Florida, USA.  (Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties)

I knew I was meant to “heal and spread the knowledge of my expertise” and that I do through my thriving personal development and strategic coaching business helping others achieve their ambitions, aspirations, and full potential to create businesses and lifestyles of their dreams!  Wealth is meant to serve your needs….and that’s what I help clients do, in TWO LANGUAGES!!! How cool is that!

Life is calling me to do more personalized group and one-on-one coaching, and I want to make sure you know that so that I can be there for you when you need me.  These are extraordinary times we are all experiencing and now more than ever it is important  to have a coach or mentor by your side to guide you through your own life’s journey so that you can  fulfill your destiny.  I would love to be the one helping you through it.

So now I ask you: “What do you want to be when You Grow-Up?

You can share your story through  My Blog or you can send me a private message and we’ll keep it between us! – Either way, I’d love to hear from you.

This is a GREAT question, Ali, and one I’ve been pondering myself. You would have made a superb doctor. I think we should dub you, “Dr. Ali, the Small Biz Doc!”

    🙂

You’re right Karyn! and I LOVE “Dr. Ali, the Small Biz Doc” – Good intro for when I meet Cher!

  2. Hi Ali – you’re always good at making people think! I had wanted to be a great painter – but you need talent and discipline for that. Not much talent and I’m too wayward on the discipline thing. But I’ve at least used my creativity in my VA business and I have a lot of fun with that! So, Doc Ali great question – thanks for asking! 🙂

Hi Liz – A painter indeed. You have lots of canvas around you, and with the twist of a brush with a little paint at the end, you can create you own masterpiece, and yes, you’re doing that already thru your VA business. Isn’t that wonderful!

    • I wanted to be a doctor too! But at age 19, I let go of that dream, and went in search for another that had been there all along: writer! And to work with other writers! I’m now living my dream one day at a time, and loving it. Thanks for the great question!

        Hi Beth,

Totally awesome that first a Doctor, and then a writer. You are fulfilling your life’s purpose. I raise my glass to you in celebration for your decisions.

May you always be who you want to be.

        Best,

        Ali

  4. Thanks Ali! I realized a few things about myself once I dropped the doctor dream. 1) That it wasn’t my dream. When I announced my decision to my parents, Dad said, “My parents always wanted ME to be a doctor.” Really? I had not know that before that moment. 2) That all I really wanted was to help others. HOW I did that could be in so many forms. Today it’s helping writers and entertaining and educating readers, coaching, consulting, being my entrepreneurial, maverick self. Fun!

That’s really interesting. Good thing you found out in time that it was someone else’s dream. Think of how many who do without knowing, and if knowing, they feel the obligation to please parents or parents figures and they never realize their own destiny in this space and time. YOu were very smart! and somehow feel, lady luck was smiling upon you as well.

Love how you describe yourself as a “Maverick”… And “Fun” to boot…..Well done, Beth:)

  6. Hi Ali,
when I was a child I was very creative about what I wanted to do or be. I wanted to be a builder, an engeneer, and electrician. Then I discovered photography and I wanted to be a famous artistic photographer. So when I was about to leave school I had abandoned the idea of wanting to be a photographer and was torn between the ideas of becoming a computer programmer or a pastor. Strangely enough I started studying physics which I gave up for training to be a photographer(!), did some press photography, worked my way into graphic design, advertising, web design and now I am putting all my skills together into my online TV project. It feels like finally growing up to do what I really want. Being an online TV producer is like being a pastor, an engineer, a cinematic photographer and a programmer in one person. And – guess what – our next Web TV show will be on quantum physics.

That’s beautiful Heiner. Amazing how those little things from early years, begin to manifest later in life. Your true calling, will now show up on your TV show: Quantum Physics. – this reads like a love story, and it is….the love story of your life. Well done!
